This was a freelance project I did for Chitralekha Studios.
Chitralekha Studios is a video production services company based in Hyderabad, India. They offer ad-film making, documentary film making, animation videos, product demo videos, and some corporate video services as well. The company worked with some popular national brands in India, such as, Kalanjali Shopping Mall, ETV Channel, Yashoda Hospitals, T-Hub, and also some international brands such as Microsoft and Amazon.
The company was founded nearly two decades ago and have been operating primarily through a networking model with some inbound sales through website. To improve the companys overall visibility and to attract more inbound sales, the client wanted to revamp their existing website to adapt to latest trends while also making it more SEO focused to rank higher on search engines.
After multiple meetings with the client to understand the business objectives and the market they operate in, I created a document with project information & objectives, and to share the project progress with the client.
The old website was custom built using PHP. Anytime the client wanted to change something or add some information to the website, they had to get in touch with an external developer to do so. For the newer website, I suggested WordPress as the platform to built it on, which makes it easier for the client to maintain the website and make any changes needed themselves quickly.
The main goals of the website were to make it fast, user friendly and SEO focused.
I started with keyword research to identify and segment keywords related to the business. Later on, I came up with a site structure that details what pages need to be created, existing pages to improve, and what keywords to target for each page. I worked on the content for each page with the help of a content writer.
For the design of the website, the client wanted to have a full-width video that autoplays when a visitor visits the website. To emphasize the video production services aspect of the company, I suggested showing more visuals of the work they did with brands using clickable and auto-playing videos on main pages of the website. I shared some rough design mockups I worked on with the client along with a suggested theme for the website.
I started building the website based on the information I gathered. There were several elements that were carefully considered to make the website as user friendly as possible.
Things like:
- Setting a minimum base font-size all through out the website to make it easier for users to read content
- Using appropriate color palette with a good ratio to make sure no color is overused
- Following a structured layout for sections on all pages to make it familiar for users to navigate all the pages of the website
- Spacing out elements to make them more focused
The above the fold design for service pages was carefully crafted to give the user a feel for the quality of work the client can offer.
After the site was built, I configured on-page and technical SEO for the website. I modified page titles to match the particular main SEO key phrase that the page is targeted for.
Couple of other SEO things I’ve done:
- Configured SEO for the entire site using RankMath SEO
- Generated alt text for all images
- Wrote appropriate meta description for pages
- Made sure that irrelevant pages (eg: thank you pages) were not indexed
- Modified any URLs that were too long
- Connected website to Search Console and Analytics
Couple of weeks after the new website was launched, search rankings improved for multiple pages and the lead flow increased as well.
